Dear Designers give yourself a bit of grace.

It’s the new year and most of us are really pumped about the year, drawing plans and resolutions either career or personal while some of us are praying and begging God not see “shege” this year and the rest of us ? Well we move.

2022 was an eventful year in the tech space. We experienced so much from the rave of web3 to NFTs, going to the moon and in some cases Mars, and also the great layoffs. A lot happened and it was easy for one to get lost and overwhelmed by all these trends that we forgot our goals and plans. A lot of us followed these trends and it worked out great and for some not so much. It felt like if you weren’t hoping on Twitter spaces talking about getting into web3 or NFTs you aren’t serious with your life. It was brutal at least for me.

But this is a new year, an opportunity to a fresh start and to get things right this time. This year, I would love to ask fellow colleagues and newbies coming into the tech space to give yourself a bit of grace this year. Allow yourself to move at your own pace and choose what’s important to you. A trend is mainly just a gamble, hoping it would workout in the long run and as we know too well some don’t.

If the trend is important to the work you do, make you more valuable to your company or you’re genuinely interested in. Then it might be best not to worry about it.

Trends aren’t a bad thing but when it doesn’t add value to you or you following it because everyone is into it then you just might be wasting your time.

This year I would like everyone to do stuff that they are interested in. Take that course because you want to, learn that skill because it adds value to you, listen to that artist because it resonates with you. 2023 is going to be an amazing year and I can’t wait to see the amazing things the tech community would do.

Happy new year friends.
